Vanessa Minnillo & Nick Lachey: Baby In the Works?

Making it sound as if family expansion may be in the works, Vanessa Minnillo opened up about the possibility of a baby in 2011 with Nick Lachey being a strong likelihood.

Asked about the chances that she'll be joining in on the Hollywood baby boom, Miss Minnillo said, ?Things happen. And if a blessing comes before the wedding then that?s exactly what it is, [a blessing].?

Having gotten engaged to Lachey back in November 2010, the pair have yet to choose (or reveal) any set wedding plans at the current time.

The couple just finished filming a guest spot together on "Hawaii Five-O" airing in February, which goes along with the fact that Vanessa has said that work has gotten in the way of baby plans in the past - but that won't always be the case.

She told, ?I would love to have children and work. I definitely don?t want it to slow me down. I?m always going to be, ?Go, go, go.? And I?m going to be pregnant, fat and happy through it all.?

As for her role model when it comes to celebrity moms, the 30-year-old revealed that she's all about Reese Witherspoon, as she dished, ?I think she?s amazing. She?s a strong woman who can manage her two babies and still be a talented actress as well an ambassador for her causes. She?s done it all, and she?s done it all with grace and [shown] it is possible.?

Britney Spears Sets March 15 Release Date For New LP

Deluxe edition will feature three or four additional tracks.
By James Dinh

As the wait for the dance-heavy video for "Hold It Against Me" continues, details regarding Britney Spears' new album have surfaced. Based on a sales-solicitation sheet, which was confirmed as accurate by a label rep to MTV News, the pop superstar's still-untitled LP is set to drop March 15.

With the rocket success of the album's lead single, it's no surprise that the singer's seventh studio album will feature "multiple songs" from pop masterminds Max Martin and Dr. Luke. Additional production credits include Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith, Bloodshy & Avant and more. Fans can choose between a standard (soft pack/wallet packaging) version of the album and the deluxe (expanded soft pack with additional booklet pages), which will feature three or four additional tracks.

Spears has been hitting the dance studio hard, as the notice describes the forthcoming "Hold It Against Me" video as "a sexy, edgy dance piece directed by Jonas Åkerlund and showing Britney at peak form and ability." Earlier this week, MTV News took the liberty of mashing together some of the singer's most-iconic music-video dance scenes to give fans an idea of what Brit's new clip might look like.

In terms of Spears' press plans, the follow-up to 2008's Circus will be met with "a major TV event to launch the album" and a TV campaign, which will feature a variation of spots before the LP hits stores. The promotional rollout will extend to advertisements on everything from the Internet to the side of taxicabs. Other marketing schemes include a "LGBT/Lifestyle campaign," worldwide online fan contests and routine tweets from Brit.

Adam Leber, the singer's manager, took to Twitter to dish details on Brit's latest photo shoot and to remind them to keep their patience.

"Britney Spears did a photoshoot for her album package yesterday," he wrote. "Photos are nothing less than spectacular. We'll share some soon." He later tweeted: "So many good things coming down the pipeline. Britney fans should be excited. Album is incredible, video is fire, photoshoot is pure glam. Patience isn't just a great song by Guns N' Roses. All good things to those who wait."

Lady Gaga Premieres Born This Way Short Film

Film, starring 'Zombie Boy,' features remixed song and footage from Thierry Mugler fashion show.

The world may at last have a first glimpse of what Gaga has up her sleeve for Born This Way, thanks to a short film made for designer Thierry Mugler. The film, directed by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, is set to the remixed song that Gaga debuted at the Mugler menswear show in Paris on Wednesday.

The black-and-white video, which premiered on Stylist.com and Mugler.com on Thursday (January 20), features Canadian model Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, whose body and face are tattooed to look like a skeleton. It opens with voiceover of Gaga saying, "I don't speak German, but I can if you like," as the camera focuses on Zombie Boy, rocking a studded helmet. Footage of Zombie Boy is edited together with models walking the catwalk in Mugler designs.

Zombie Boy mugs for the camera wearing a leather jacket and pearls while Gaga sings in German, "I'm absolutely clear/ As long as I'm a monster/ I wish we all could be blind/ It would be easier out there." She repeats the phrase and the beat plays low under her anthem.

There is very little pop in the dark, subversive club jam, reminiscent of a '90s club track. The vibe of the video is an extension of her equally fashionable clip for "Alejandro," which was styled by Nicola Formichetti, who happens to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler.

Zombie Boy is later seen walking in a city, wearing street clothes, as Gaga sings in English, "I'll take you out tonight/ Say whatever you like," accompanied by a pulsing beat. The video closes with a model walking down the runway as the song fades out.

Gaga remixed the song herself for the show. "I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess," she said of Formichetti in a statement about the show. "But don't tell him I said that, he'll die. He picked them all out."

Britney Spears' Pop Rivalries, From Christina Aguilera To Lady Gaga

'She's sort of left a lot of these girls in the dust,' one Spears expert tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi

For more than a decade, Britney Spears has been pitted against some of her pop peers, including Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera and, most recently, Lady Gaga.

She's publicly buried the hatchet with Madonna and Aguilera — sharing a three-way kiss with the pair at the 2003 VMAs — and never really paid much attention to the hype of other so-called rivalries.

"Since the beginning of her career, she's always been pitted against whatever big pop person there is," MTV News' Jim Cantiello explained.

"I feel like artists have had rivalries with Britney and she hasn't really had rivalries with them," Entertainment Weekly's Leah Greenblatt added. "She's sort of left a lot of these girls in the dust."

While Brit has managed to stay on top all these years, a new pop princess might give her a run for her money. "I think Gaga's already been talking about what she is gonna do. She has said that her album is going to be more than just dance songs, and I'm guessing that Britney might be making a different type of album, which is great, because in that sense, Brit and Gaga don't have to compete," Perez Hilton said of any potential new rivalry. "They're each doing their own very distinct thing."

Greenblatt agreed: "It just seems like they're operating on different wavelengths right now. I mean, Britney's proven herself over such a longer period of time than Gaga has. I don't think that Gaga can just wipe her off the pop royalty board."

At the end of the day, it's not at all about competition, Cantiello explained. "Britney's going in the super dance route and Gaga's doing a super personal album," he said. "It comes a point where we've got to stop comparing the two."

Plus, it's hard for these two to really ever compete with one another, since Gaga has admitted to waving the Britney flag. "I was 13 when Britney became a star," she said in 2009. "I was amazed by the level of the superfan that Britney created. I want to bring back the feeling that I used to feel."

Usher's 'OMG' Is MTV News' #1 Song Of 2010!

Club smash, featuring will.i.am, tops our list of the Top 25 Songs of the year.
By James Montgomery

Usher
Photo: Getty Images

MTV News' Top 25 Songs of 2010 has reached an end. We've already counted down the rest, and now it's time to get to the best: Usher's "OMG," the song that perfectly sums up the past 12 months of popular music — and makes you wanna move until you can't move no more.

If 2010 proved anything, it's that a DJ really can save your life ... or at least get you to #1 on the Hot 100. After years of staring at each other from across the room, hip-hop, pop and R&B all decided to finally get in bed with dance music, and the results weren't always pretty, but they were certainly successful. To date, only 17 songs have made it to the top spot of Billboard's singles chart in 2010, and nearly two-thirds of them — from Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" to Far East Movement's "Like a G6" — were, in some way, dance songs.

In that regard, no song better sums up 2010 pop music quite like Usher's "OMG," the dance song to end all dance songs. Sure, it may not have matched the swagger of Kanye West's "Power," the snarl of Rick Ross' "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" or the inbox-clogging spread of Cee Lo's "F--- You," but it didn't have to. None of those songs went to #1, after all. "OMG" did. Twice.

Even among songs that managed to snag that top spot — Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," B.o.B and Bruno Mars' "Nothin' on You" — "OMG" stood out from the pack, mostly because of its pedigree. It's not a stretch to say that any of those tracks could've (and probably would've) been #1 in any other year; "OMG" could only have done it in 2010, because it was crafted to do nothing else. No other song this year was as of the moment, as singular and shiny and downright undeniable. There's a reason it was named on more ballots than any other song on our countdown and justly takes the title of MTV News' #1 Song of 2010.

And while all that is important, it's largely beside the point. "OMG" is the kind of song that truly defies deep inspection, because it's not exactly headphone music. Rather, it was made for the clubs, designed to envelop you on the dance floor and not let go until the final "oh-ohh-oh-ooh-oh." And in that regard, it succeeds in spades. It is a masterful melding of R&B, and Euro dance, all icy synths and handclaps, starbursts and stutters and sing-along chants. It ebbs and flows, stops and starts, pumps and preens. Simply put, you cannot listen to it without moving in some way. (MTV's Dee Caligiuri, who voted on our countdown, probably put it best one night when she declared: "There are so many dances you can do to it!") And if that's not the definition of a success, well, then I don't know what is.

A large portion of the credit for "OMG" has to go to will.i.am, who not only produced the track (I know!), but was smart enough to see this whole dance thing coming when he teamed up with producer David Guetta last year. Those songs — "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" — were, of course, massive, but neither of them are as good as this. Given full control, Will goes off the deep end, cramming the song with every dance trick in the book — and probably some new ones he just invented on the spot. And Usher, whose career, truth be told, was sort of in need of a shot in the arm, is the beneficiary. He floats and gloats above the mix, suave and cocksure, knowing that he is exactly the right man at the right time. That time, of course, had to be 2010.

Because in a year when so many big-name acts embraced the DJ, he flat-out did it better than any of them. "OMG" represents the peak of the dance-pop era in which we live, a song as undeniable as it is of the moment. We can only speculate as to what next year will bring, but there's really no denying that, as 2010 comes to a close, Usher stands above all else, reinvigorated and ready for more. It's enough to make you say "Oh My God," really.

How does Usher's "OMG" rank among the year's best songs? Let us know in the comments!

Does 'Breaking Dawn - Part 1' Title Card Reflect Movie's Tone?

Summit Entertainment says each 'Twilight' film's color scheme has meaning.
By Kara Warner

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1"
Photo: Summit

In the spirit of the old adage "When it rains, it pours," a flurry of "Twilight" news and imagery has hit the Internet over the past two weeks. Things kicked off last week with the release of the first photo from "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," which showed the film's paramours, Robert Pattinson's Edward and Kristen Stewart's Bella, in a very romantic moment on the night after their wedding. Shortly after that photo set "Twilight" fan eyes popping and hearts racing, MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Pattinson himself at the Golden Globe Awards to get his thoughts on the steamy-looking photo.

On Friday (January 21), Summit Entertainment released yet another early gift for the millions of "Twilight" fans, the official title card for the first part of "Breaking Dawn."

Keeping with the tradition and look of the first three films, "Twilight," "New Moon" and "Eclipse," this "Dawn" title card has the same font (its official name is Zephyr) that fans have come to know and love. And while the card for "Twilight" was red, "New Moon" was gold and "Eclipse" was shiny silver, this card for Part 1 of "Dawn" is a reddish orange — the color of, well, the sky as dawn breaks. According to Summit, each card has a unique color to reflect the tone of the story.

So judging from this intense color, what might we expect from the film that we don't already know about? Those who've read and obsessed over Stephenie Meyer's novels know that the conclusion to the "Twilight Saga" packed a punch, complete with a vampire transformation, a marriage, a baby and a battle.

What do you think of the "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" title card? What scenes are you most excited to see in the film? Tell us in the comments!

Check out everything we've got on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1."

Girl Talk: How I Look At Myself In The Mirror These Days

how I look at myself in the mirror now

You can tell a lot about what's going on in a woman's life based on the conversations she has with herself when she looks in a mirror. Sitting in a church or temple pew, or lying awake in bed at night, might be when she does the most deep thinking. But what goes through her head while she glances in the mirror brushing her teeth or washing her hands in the bathroom at work— those are the moments she talks to herself about what she sees. Interacting with her appearance, she's either a friend or an enemy.

Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' Likely Safe From Copyright Case

Country music duo the Bellamy Brothers are upset over Britney song title's resemblance to their 1979 hit.
By Gil Kaufman

Britney Spears and the Bellamy Brothers
Photo: Getty Images

Chances are, nobody out there is going to confuse the Bellamy Brothers' slow-rolling, 1979 Tex-Mex country hit "If I Said You Have a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me" with Britney Spears' new club grinder "Hold It Against Me."

Yeah, the titles are somewhat similar, but even with the noise the "Let Your Love Flow" sibling act is making over a possible legal challenge to Brit, the chances of winning a case over the borrowing of a song title is pretty slim, according to a noted copyright attorney who spoke to MTV News.

"A title is not copyrightable," said lawyer Brian Caplan, who has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property and entertainment law. (Caplan does not represent the Bellamy Brothers.) "The expression, either in lyrics or music in a composition is copyrightable, however if something has been used previously by multiple sources, one can argue that it is trite or commonplace and the latter user has no right to it."

David Bellamy conceded to Entertainment Weekly that he first heard the title phrase — a favorite cheesy pick-up line for bar-trollers across the globe — while watching reruns of the classic Groucho Marx show "You Bet Your Life." The mustachioed comedian used the line on the show one night in an attempt to sidle up to a buxom blonde, Bellamy recalled.

"It was just really funny, and I thought, 'Well, that'd make a really good song title," Bellamy said, acknowledging that many songs have the same, or similar, titles these days. "But this particular title is kinda hard to disguise, because the title is the song. It's not like saying, 'I love you, baby.' I think songwriters have become watered-down. This makes me sound like an old man again, but I find that songwriters now are not as strong as they used to be in the '60s or '70s."

Lawyer Caplan, who had not heard either song when MTV News contacted him to comment, said that just because a title is not copyrightable does not mean a potential case would automatically go away. "It means that there would be a strong argument as it moves forward to have it dismissed, though," he said. "If you can show through a survey of prior art that that phrase has been used previously by others prior to the plaintiff's use, then it significantly undermines [the case] and if it's only used in the title it's a slam dunk."

As an example, he said if someone wrote a song called "Jersey Girl" or "My Jersey Girl," despite the fact that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Tom Waits wrote his "Jersey Girl" in 1980 — and Jersey boy Bruce Springsteen helped popularize it a year later — as long as the rest of the song is different musically, lyrically and melodically, there would be no case there, either.

In the meantime, Spears is burning up the charts with her tune and breaking some records along the way. "Hold It Against Me" immediately shot to #1 on iTunes upon release this week and broke all previous records for most spins upon its release on Monday.

Wiz Khalifa And Snoop Dogg's 'That Good' Video Hits Net

First clip from duo's upcoming 'High School' soundtrack shows kush-loving MCs enjoying baked goods.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Wiz Khalifa looks like he'll fit in just fine in Los Angeles. The lanky Pittsburgh rapper recently announced plans to relocate to the West Coast this year, and in his and Snoop's new video for "That Good," Wiz plays the part of Cali OG to the fullest.

The Taylor Gang head takes in the green ways of Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound's Daz Dillinger in the clip. "I'm smoking everywhere I go," Wiz sings over the breezy production while seated at a kitchen table with Snoop and company poring over medicinal items.

The video, which shows Snoop and Wiz cruising around town in a haze of smoke, serves as the first visual offering from the pair's upcoming movie and soundtrack, "High School." The joint project was originally announced earlier this month with no release date or title. Then, in an interview with DJ Skee Snoop revealed the movie title and suggested the flick would go straight to DVD in time for an April 20 release — a nod to smokers — but the "That Good" clip ends with a message saying the project will arrive in June.

On Skee's Hip-Hop Nation radio show, Snoop further explained that the concept of the LP and movie was a union of generations.

"We decided to go ahead and say, 'You know what? Let's do a movie and a soundtrack and just become, you know, bosom buddies and do what we do, 'cause we love what we do and we love each other and at the same time we know what the people want,' " Snoop said. "The people want to see the two generations come together where hip-hop ain't about old school and new school. It's just about good music and making good moves and putting something out there that's classic where people can respect it and say, 'Yeah, so now, this was some gangsta sh-- that really made hip-hop gradually grow to another level.' "

Although Snoop's collabos with Wiz have been keeping him busy, the Cali vet also has a solo project on the way: The Doggumentary album is due March 29.

Beyonce Says She Wants To 'Make My Own Genre Of Music'

Singer is in the studio working on Sasha Fierce follow-up.
By Gil Kaufman

Beyoncé
Photo: Getty Images

Beyoncé doesn't have that much left to prove in her career. She's a megaplatinum artist, an accomplished actress, half of one of the most successful musical couples in history and a fashion icon.

But on the follow-up to her smash 2008 Grammy-winning album I Am ... Sasha Fierce, the singer is aiming to carve an entirely new lane for herself.

"I love to dance, I love to sing, and I'm actually in the studio now writing songs and producing," the singer told "Entertainment Tonight" from the set of a new commercial she's filming for Vizio televisions. "I have a lot of live instruments that I'm putting into the tracks to try to change the sound and make my own genre of music." The commercial will debut on Thanksgiving day, just after the singer rocks prime-time TV with an ABC Thanksgiving special entitled "I Am ... World Tour."

Among the producers and songwriters working with Beyoncé on the new, as-yet-untitled album is Ne-Yo, who helped write one of the 29-year-old singer's biggest hits, "Irreplaceable."

Ne-Yo told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Beyoncé's fourth solo effort is "coming along nicely. I can't speak too much on it, but it's another direction for her, and she's carving out her own niche. ... In a minute nobody will be in Beyoncé's lane. They really can't get in her lane now, but they really can't get in her lane after this album."

In the meantime, producer Jim Jonsin, who produced her song "Sweet Dreams," has also said he has some new directions in mind for Beyoncé. "I'd like to take it even more Depeche Mode-ish, like '80s electro with just some hard drums," he told Rap-Up TV. "I'd love to go there."

That fits with what songwriter Sean "The Pen" Garrett recently told Entertainment Weekly. Garrett, who was behind such hits as "Video Phone," "Diva" and "Upgrade U," said that he was slated to hit the studio with Beyoncé in September and that the results would be hard-hitting.

"I think we are doing a lot of uptempo records for this one," he said. "She's in such a good place right now in life that she is interested in making party music, definitely."

'Green Hornet' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Superhero film took a winding path to the big screen, and we've been there the whole way.
By Eric Ditzian

When did the story of the Seth Rogen-starring, Michel Gondry-directed "Green Hornet" begin? Does it go all the way back to the superhero's adventures on 1930s-era radio, or does it begin with the 1966 TV series that made Bruce Lee a star?

Perhaps instead we should begin in the early '90s with Hollywood's attempt to revive the dormant franchise. There are enough twists and turns there to form the basis of an entire master class in major-studio development hell. The title role, in its various incarnations, was reportedly at one time or another offered to everyone from George Clooney to Greg Kinnear. Directors (including Gondry in the late '90s) and screenwriters came and went. Studios traded rights to the property.

Then, in stepped Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg with an outline for the movie in fall 2007. More than three bump-and-bruise-filled years later, "The Green Hornet" finally hit theaters Friday (January 14). How did it get there? What do you need to know before checking out the action/comedy about a rich kid named Britt Reid who turns himself into a superhero with the help of sidekick/genius Kato? All your questions will be answered with MTV News' "Green Hornet" cheat sheet.

The Green Hornet Meets Red-Faced Fans
Initial fan reaction to the pairing of Rogen with the superhero material was not kind, and the vitriol seemed never to let up. "People just love bitching," he laughed during a July '08 interview with MTV News. "Hopefully, people will see it and say, 'Oh, yeah, they can kind of do that, maybe we'll give them an easier time.' "

Seeking to attract some action-flick cred, Rogen recruited Stephen Chow ("Kung Fu Hustle") both to direct and to star as Kato. Seeking as well to establish himself as a believable superhero, Rogen hit the gym and began to shed a lot of weight.

Then, just like that, Chow was gone as director. And Rogen was screwed. But he and Sony Pictures regrouped, signed Gondry and pushed forward with the project.

You're Perfect, Now Change
Nothing, it seemed, would come easy for "Green Hornet." In summer '09, the film's release date was pushed back from June 25 to July 9, 2010. Then Chow skipped out on playing Kato. And then Nicolas Cage, who was set to play the film's main villain, ditched the production too. The release was once again pushed back, this time to winter 2010. "Every possible obstacle came in our way at one point or another, to the point that it really just got ridiculous," Rogen told us later.

The crew again regrouped, signing Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz to play the villain, alongside Jay Chou as Kato and Cameron Diaz as Reid's assistant. Production began in fall '09.

"I tried to be very precise," Gondry told MTV News during the South by Southwest Film Festival last March. "I tried to redefine fights in my own style."

Seriously, Though, Change Again!
By spring of last year, things were getting ridiculous. Sony had decided to convert the film to 3-D and yet again pushed back the release date: January 14, 2011, it would be.

No matter! The first official image popped up online in June, followed by the trailer. The footage was funny, eye-popping stuff. Hey, maybe this thing wasn't going to be so bad after all? The second trailer, which dropped in November, backed up that initial impression. And when audiences started to check out early screenings of the film, it turned out they actually liked the movie, that it neatly balanced comedy and action, that it wasn't, as so many Web-based bloviators suggested, the worst movie in the history of the world.

"It is nice that people actually have to base their assumptions on the movie now and not just what they think the movie is going to be like," Rogen laughed.

Check out everything we've got on "The Green Hornet."

Justin Bieber Guest Editing Vanity Fair's Facebook Page

'I'm proud of my interview and cover,' the pop singer writes online of his cover story in the magazine's latest issue.

Not only is Justin Bieber the subject of a coveted cover story in Vanity Fair's latest issue, the teenage pop superstar has been tapped to guest edit the magazine's Facebook page.

"This week, the Vanity Fair Facebook page gets its first-ever guest editor: Justin Bieber!" the magazine announced on the website on Monday (January 10). "Check back later today for exclusive content, video, and giveaways ..."

For his first post on the site (the only one the pop star had contributed as of press time), Bieber gave fans a quick synopsis of what he'll be up to this week. "Pretty cool that I get to host the Vanity Fair Facebook page this week. I'm proud of my interview and cover — it was the most intense interview I've ever done," he shared. "Gonna be a fun week — make sure you make some comments because I will send one random fan who writes in the comments section a signed copy of my book. LEGGOOOO!"

Michael Hogan, executive online editor, talked about Bieber's guest-editor gig in a statement to MTV News: "The genius of Facebook is the way it enables people to talk to each other in a whole new way, and Vanity Fair is uniquely positioned to give our fans a whole new way of interacting with the world's most fascinating people. With 18 million Facebook fans, 6 million Twitter followers, and more than 1 billion YouTube views, Justin Bieber is the quintessential modern celebrity phenomenon, and we're thrilled to have him as the first (of many, we hope) guest editor of Vanity Fair's Facebook page."

It's not the first time that the young singer has claimed a website for his own. Last April, as a prank, Bieber took over Funny or Die, renaming the site "Funny or Bieber." During his 24-hour reign over the site, he posted videos mocking his pop star status. "Justin Bieber has decided to buy Bieber or Die," a message on the website read. "And do with it whatever his tiny little heart desires."

Will you be following Vanity Fair's Facebook page while Bieber serves as guest editor? Tell us in the comments.

Lily Collins Feels The 'Momentum' Going Into 2011

With roles in 'Abduction,' 'Priest' and 'City of Bones,' the actress is one of MTV News' 11 for '11.
By Eric Ditzian

Lily Collins
Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic

There was a time, not long ago, when Lily Collins was known — if she was known at all — as the daughter of a famous rock star, appearing in the pages of fashion magazines and at haute-couture-resplendent debutante balls. Her story could have stayed on such a track, another pretty face with an illustrious pedigree, fame born simply of fame instead of accomplishment.

But that's not how Collins' story will be told. Rather, it'll begin something like this: The daughter of Genesis rocker Phil Collins, she won a small role as Sandra Bullock's daughter in "The Blind Side," a film that could have been reasonably expected to fade into obscurity had filmmakers not nailed a pitch-perfect tone of inspirational Hollywood drama rather than one of heartstring-tugging schmaltz. The Oscar-winning blockbuster lead to Collins' scoring the female lead in "Abduction," in which she plays the love interest of "Twilight" hunk Taylor Lautner.

The thriller hits theaters in September, and its highly anticipated release among the Twi-set would already qualify Collins as an actress to watch in 2011. But she also stars in the supernatural horror flick, "Priest," and just won the coveted role of Clary Fray in the upcoming adaptation of "City of Bones," the first book in Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" series. With all these projects in the pipeline, Collins was an obvious pick as one of MTV News' 11 for '11.

The 21-year-old, who speaks with a poise and confidence that belie her years, called us up recently to chat about dealing with her newfound fame, working with Lautner and how she landed the "Mortal Instruments" gig.

MTV: 2011 is shaping up to be a big year for you, coming off "The Blind Side," with a bunch of prominent roles this year and some new projects coming down the line. Does 2011 feel like it's going to be a momentous year?

Lily Collins: It really does. Everything for me has happened so quickly. I finished shooting "The Blind Side" not this past June, but the June before, and all of sudden up to now, it seems like it's gone from zero to 60 for me. I feel so fortunate to be able to say that, because a lot of my friends aren't working, especially since fewer films are being made now and there's more competition. Right before Christmas, I found out I was cast as Clary in "Mortal Instruments," so it was the best early Christmas present ever. So to know that I'm starting off 2011 with that project to film, and also having two other ones coming out, it's a position I never thought I'd see myself in. I feel the momentum.

MTV: Has it been a difficult transition, with the increased attention on your private life as well as your professional life?

Collins: I grew up with my dad going through all that. I grew up understanding the pros and cons of what you're getting into and knowing what comes with your job. I like to keep my private life private, and then work is work. I feel so far I've had a really good balance with that. So far I'm having fun, which is why I'm doing this. I enjoy the craft. I hope that never goes away. I don't like reading things that people say on the Internet because I know so much of it is not true. I don't want to waste my time worrying about what other people are thinking. I just want to focus on being able to do cool projects.

MTV: So let's talk about some of these cool projects you have coming up. "Abduction," first off. Have you seen any finished footage?

Collins: I have seen footage. [Director] John Singleton would shoot scenes and was really open to showing us different takes and if we wanted to see different angles. We had instantaneous feedback. And I have seen cuts here and there of stuff. Nothing like a final edit, but I have seen bits and pieces. I'm extremely proud. This was my biggest role to date. Of course I was nervous. Especially because there was so much action and all those stunts and I'm trying not to fall when I'm going through rivers at 4:30 in the morning. There was so much going on, and every single emotion you can think of we had to go through in the span of 30 seconds because so much happens too quickly. From what I've seen, I'm thrilled. When it comes to the work, I'm excited to see what people think. When it comes to the private life, that's when I don't pay attention.

MTV: Was there one action scene with you and Taylor that was particularly challenging?

Collins: At one point we're running around, trying to escape in the forest, and there's a giant hill that we had to run down, and it felt like a 90-degree angle. John wanted me to fall at a planned moment, but it was so steep, and we were running at high speeds, I would just fall anyway. I had to practice falling, but look like I was falling on purpose. Also, there was a fight scene where I just get beaten up. It was in a very confined space and the choreography was very challenging because you can't be knocking into the camera. "Priest" had a lot of action, and I had to do fight training as well.

MTV: Suddenly you've become an action hero ...

Collins: I know! In "Priest," I don't even look like myself because I have bright red hair and I'm in the same outfit the whole movie, because I'm kidnapped, so I'm dirty the whole time. I was in the desert putting dirt in my hair to make sure I look distressed and downtrodden. But it was fun because I'm jumping off trains and setting people on fire and getting into knife fights.

MTV: Let's talk about "Mortal Instruments."

Collins: That is going to be a whole new world for me. When I found out I was cast, I found out that people were tweeting about me getting cast as their heroine. I know that I'm playing a character in a book that is very popular, but I forget that books have so many fans, that if they don't agree with the casting, it could go terribly wrong. I was so grateful that all these people were tweeting like, "Oh, we're so excited. We totally see her as Clary, and we can't wait to see what she'll do." I don't know what I would have done if people responded negatively.

MTV: Tell me about the audition process.

Collins: Actually, this was the first time I actually didn't audition. They offered me the role. I had just done "Priest," which is from Screen Gems and directed by Scott Stewart, and this project is being directed by Scott Stewart at Screen Gems. So the role I did in "Priest," if the movie does well and goes to a sequel, there are many of that character's traits that I can also find in Clary. I guess they felt passionate that they saw certain characteristics as well, and they felt confident and really believed in me. I'm in still in awe. When I got that call, I was like, "Wait, are you talking about an audition?"

MTV: Is that the next thing you're filming?

Collins: Yeah, I'm supposed to start this in early April. There are other things we're in talks for, but that's my next big project.

MTV: Of course, first you guys have to cast Jace Wayland? Do you have anyone in mind for the part?

Collins: Jace is an interesting one. He's incredibly charming. He's savvy in that he knows he's charming and he works that charm, and he knows he's attractive and can work his way into any situation. But at the same time, he does have insecurities. A lot of actors may not want to show a side of themselves being insecure. That's what Jace does, and I feel a lot of people can relate to him. A lot of guys do feel insecure, but don't want to admit it. A lot of the fans has been tweeting that [they want] Alex Pettyfer. I don't know the process.

MTV: Do you think he'd be a good fit?

Collins: Yeah! He's also going to have a great 2011. The fans of a series like this have such a strong opinion on who they feel would be great as a character, and I feel that's very backed up because they know the characters in and out. I trust a lot of the fans in their opinions. I don't know if there are going to be auditions or anything. I've heard Logan Lerman thrown out for Simon. These are from fans, and I'm excited to see their points-of-view. I've also heard about actors I may never have heard of, because they're more on the independent side. That brings a whole other thing, because an unknown doesn't bring in a whole lot of background. You don't want a new character like this to have people think, "Oh, they've done that already," or, "I can only see them as this kind of character." So I hear that and go, "Wow, maybe an unknown could bring more to this role." Hey, I was an unknown not too long ago, and I was like, "Let me do it! I can prove it to you!"

Check out MTV News' 11 for '11 — actors, musicians and TV stars who are about to have a huge year — all week long.

'Season Of The Witch' Explores 'The Paranormal,' Nic Cage Says

Cage tells MTV News he was inspired by B-movies like 'the great Roger Corman classics.'
By Eric Ditzian

Nicolas Cage
Photo: MTV News

Why the vitriol? The blogosphere has lit up in recent days with some staggering hate for "Season of the Witch," Nicolas Cage's supernatural tale of evil spirits haunting Europe during the Crusades.

Honestly, there are two ways to assess a movie: You can critique it for what you think it should have aspired to be or you can critique it on the grounds of what filmmakers themselves attempted to create. And with the latter sort of critical assessment, "Season of the Witch" hardly deserves all this fury, especially given how Cage describes his approach to the film. The actor stars, alongside Ron Perlman, as a warrior recruited to ferry a suspected witch to a bunch of monks in the hope of curing a devastating plague outbreak.

"I think at some point I wanted to make movies that celebrated actors like Christopher Lee and Vincent Price, and the great Roger Corman classics that are unafraid to explore the paranormal and the supernatural," Cage explained to MTV News. "These are the kind of movies that I personally watch, so it's a very honest expression for me."

When you realize that Cage and director Dominic Sena were aspiring to make a film in the vein of something like "Attack of the Crab Monsters," it becomes clearer why "Season of the Witch" plays out the way it does. Which is not to say the movie, which hit theaters on Friday (January 7), is some B-movie masterpiece — hardly. Seriously: not a chance. But it's still quite entertaining.

It's hard to tire of Cage as proud Behman and Perlman as meathead Felson riffing back and forth in what Cage calls "a great buddy movie [with] a road-trip element to it."

"Whereas Behman has a very well-articulated idea of his relationship to country and church and spirituality and God, Felson has none," Perlman explained. "He doesn't bother to spend any time thinking about that. His only thought is the next drink, the next night of whoring, and how to create as much mayhem on the battlefield as is humanly possible."

Britney, Gaga, Lil Wayne Lead 2011's Most-Anticipated Albums

Offerings from Drake, Coldplay, Rick Ross, U2, Jay-Z and Kanye West and more also make our list of LPs to watch for this year.
By Gil Kaufman

2010 went out with a bang thanks to blockbuster albums by Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, but 2011 looks to top that flurry of releases with an avalanche of fresh product from some of your favorite artists.

While its release is still unconfirmed, one of the most anticipated discs of the year could drop as early as next week. That's when Jay-Z and Kanye's collabo album, Watch the Throne, hits shelves if comments made by Yeezy on New Year's Eve are to be believed.

Here's a breakdown of some other important albums on tap for 2011.

Hip-Hop
The Jigga/'Ye hookup promises to be the first of many major rap events in the first half of the year, which is also expected to bring the long-awaited new disc from Lupe Fiasco, Lasers; the full-length debut from Wiz Khalifa; as well as not-yet-titled new sets from Nas and 50 Cent.

In addition to Rick Ross' God Forgives, I Don't and a possible Dipset reunion effort, fans are also awaiting release dates for Drake's sophomore CD, Take Care, and the debut from buzzbomb MC/producer Jay Electronica, who holds the seal of approval from Roc Nation head Jay-Z. And after a delay caused by MCA's (a.k.a. Adam Yauch) cancer scare, the Beastie Boys are planning a return with their eighth studio album, The Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2, in the spring.

All of that could just be an appetizer, though, for the main event: the release of Lil Wayne's first post-prison album, the hotly tipped Tha Carter IV, which has not yet received a street date. And there is, of course, the always tantalizing proposition of Dr. Dre finally dropping his years-in-the-making rap follow-up Detox, on which Eminem has recently said he's been working with his mentor.

Pop
Since "Whip My Hair" became a viral sensation, fans have been hyped for the still-untitled debut from tween star Willow Smith, who has hinted she might remake one of dad Will's signature hits. But it's the next move from the queen of R&B, Beyoncé, that has fans really psyched.

She may have killed off her alter ego for the follow-up to 2008's smash I Am ... Sasha Fierce, but Beyoncé has some big plans for her still-untitled album. Producer Jim Jonsin said he intends to take a retro, Depeche Mode-inspired electro direction on some of the songs, while Sean "The Pen" Garrett promised some uptempo party records, with B drawing inspiration from Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill.

The year's biggest showdown, though, could come in the emerging diva battle between Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. Britney looks to draw first blood with the upcoming release of a single from her next album, "Hold it Against Me," which is due within the week. Gaga's second full-length album, Born This Way, is one of the most anticipated of the year and currently slated to hit in May, with the title track single expected in February.

Other pop releases on tap include an album from "Glee" star Matthew Morrison, the long-awaited new disc from troubled British R&B singer Amy Winehouse, Avril Lavigne's delayed Goodbye Lullaby, a possible second CD from dance duo La Roux, more body-thumping goodness from Swedish singer Lykke Li and the debut from Sky Ferreira. Also in the studio and expected to wrap up sessions in time for a 2011 release is Kelly Clarkson.

Rock
This year will bring a bumper crop of albums from reunited rock bands, classic acts and new groups looking to capitalize on their recent success.

In addition to a dance-oriented album from U2 called Songs of Ascent, you can expect new tunes from R.E.M (Collapse Into Now) and the Foo Fighters, whose next one will feature a mini-Nirvana reunion thanks to bass on at least one track by ex-Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.

Other artists expected or scheduled to release LPs this year include Radiohead, the Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Bright Eyes, Cold War Kids, PJ Harvey, ex-Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump, former FOB bassist Pete Wentz's new band Black Cards, Iron & Wine, Tennis, Passion Pit, Fiona Apple, Fleet Foxes, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco and the reunited No Doubt.

Speaking of reunions, Blink-182 have been working on their first new album in seven years, while drummer Travis Barker is slated to drop his solo debut in the first half of the year. Another band returning from a long hiatus, the Strokes, also look to make their comeback in early 2011.

They've kept things quiet, but Coldplay are also hard at work on what they've described as a concept album about a couple lost in love. The Brian Eno-produced album has not yet gotten a street date.

After having a smash 2010 with Lungs, fans of Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine may also get a second album from the flame-haired singer. Although there's been no official announcement, based on comments made by singer/guitarist Jack White, this could also be the year the White Stripes return to action after a nearly three-year hiatus.

Which albums are you excited about in 2011? Did we miss your favorites? Let us know in the comments!
