These last few weeks of movie news have been big ones for comic book fans. The highly anticipated "X-Men: First Class" trailer debuted on Thursday and, kicking things off this week, a new image and the official title for the Spider-Man reboot have been revealed.
Columbia Pictures announced on Monday (February 14) that the flick would be titled "The Amazing Spider-Man" and simultaneously released a photo of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, the first official shot of Garfield in the full-on suit.
In the months leading up to these big Spider-Man reveals, we've seen various photos from the set, including Garfield in the suit sans mask. Even former onscreen Spidey Tobey Maguire weighed in, giving his stamp of approval after seeing an image of the new getup.
"I thought it looked cool," Maguire told MTV News at Sundance last month. "I mean, I think they did a great job with the design of it, and I'm excited to see it in action."
Garfield told us awhile back that Maguire has been especially gracious about the "Social Network" star taking over the role he made famous in three films with director Sam Raimi.
"He sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend," Garfield said. "He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I'm thankful."
"The Amazing Spider-Man" is currently in production and is being shot entirely in 3-D. Directed by Marc Webb, the comic book film also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field. It will hit theaters on July 3, 2012.
