Ryan Reynolds is People's reigning Sexiest Man Alive and -- following his recent divorce from Scarlett Johansson -- an extremely eligible bachelor. But, in a sad twist for the ladies, the Green Lantern star tells Details magazine that he's not interested in dating right now and -- what's more -- he doesn't think he'll ever marry again!
"(Dating) just seems so kind of alien to me at this point," he says. "I've been in relationships pretty much since high school. Some people look at that as a good thing. I think wiser people might see that as a house of cards."
As for that divorce, Reynolds isn't exactly forthcoming with the details. "The media wasn't invited to my marriage, and they're definitely not invited into the divorce," he says bluntly. But he is willing to talk in a general way about the way it made his feel -- and is still making him feel. "Anyone who gets divorced goes through a lot of pain, but you come out of it," he acknowledges. "I'm not out of it yet. At all. But I sense that as I do come through it, there's optimism. How can there not be?"
Even so, Reynolds says he can't fathom the idea of tying the knot again -- at least not right now. "I don't think I want to get married again, but you always reevaluate these things," he says.
Perhaps that's because of all the hoopla surrounding his split from Johansson. Reynolds was filming the comic-book blockbuster Green Lantern (opening June 17) when the marriage broke up, and he reportedly shared with fellow cast members how depressed he felt -- leading to rumors that Johansson broke his heart. The press reported that Reynolds had tried to work on the marriage, but it was never a priority for Johansson.
In the Details interview, however, Reynolds doesn't go into any of that. But he does say that his decision to keep quiet about his personal life meant that the media felt free to speculate, filling the pages with rumors.
"What was happening privately was the exact opposite of what was being reported," Reynolds tells the magazine. "There was no story and no scandal, so the narrative was just created for me. That was the most disturbing part. I wasn't angry. I absolutely predicted every beat of it."
Good pal Sandra Bullock (who, for the record, is not dating Reynolds) tells Details: "As his friend, any dark secrets that I may or may not know are forever safe with me. Unless he doesn't do something I want him to do, like babysitting. When that day comes, I'll be sure to hold a press conference."
Despite the fact that Johansson has already started dating Sean Penn, Reynolds has nothing but good things to say about her, at least in public. "Departing a relationship and still maintaining the idea that this is still the same person I married is a great luxury that I experienced. Thankfully I was in a relationship where two people chose to remain on the high road in every regard."
